In the first of our series of blogs in which we meet some of our team, it is Elliot Judge, Graphic Designer, who is first up to face the interrogation from the Hit blog team. So without further ado, let’s ‘hit’ to know Elliot…

Hit: What did you study?

Elliot: “I am a student at Nottingham Trent university, studying graphic design. I am currently doing a placement year with Hit Creative.”

Hit: What have you been working on for Hit?

Elliot: “I have been working with the team at Hit for five months now. During this time, I have helped streamline and organise the agencies’ visual identity by creating a Brand Style Guide to ensure the visual guidelines stay consistent as we expand. In the short time I’ve been working here I have started working with clients from all over the world.”

Hit: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Elliot: “In 10 years, I see myself working professionally as either being or on the path of becoming a creative director. I see myself working with clients from all over the world managing a vast range of projects and collaborating with interesting creatives.”

Hit: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Elliot: “The most valuable piece of graphic design advice I’ve received is to prioritise simplicity and clarity in my designs. If you can’t explain your design concept in a sentence or two, it might be too complicated. This advice has been a constant guide in my work, reminding me to distil my ideas to their essence and communicate them effectively.

“Embracing simplicity not only enhances visual appeal but also ensures that the intended message is easily understood by the audience. I also remember seeing an interview with Paula Sher where she says: “It’s through mistakes that you can grow. You have to get bad in order to get good.” The best way to improve in any creative field in my opinion is to fail but use it constructively and to your advantage.”

Hit: What design styles or designers inspire you?

Elliot: “David Carson, Paula Scher, László Moholy-Nagy, Matt Willey, to name just a few. These designers have left a lasting impact on the graphic design world, each contributing a unique perspective and approach. Studying their work can offer valuable insights and inspiration for your own design journey, whether it be embracing experimental typography, mastering branding, exploring modernist principles, or refining editorial design skills.”

Hit: Why should clients choose Hit?

Elliot: “At Hit, we see our clients as an extension of the team. We pride ourselves on being approachable, understanding, and possessing a proven track record of great work across various industries. Hit is a one-stop-shop where companies can express their core values and creativity, with help from the talented team providing specialist services like video, drone footage, marketing, branding, and design. We are fluent in visual language.”
